on a whim

just as i decided to let my blog die an excruciatingly slow and undignified death like all forsaken blogs suddenly i had the urge to rescue it from limbo... haha although i dunno who is gonna read this.

anyway everything has gone by so quickly, the last time i blogged was in december and now its nearly july. and so many things have happened. just like that the 4 mth electives and over. and yes, we are officially M5s. M FIVES!

frankly i'm feeling quite helpless and directionless as to how to approach my final year in med sch. as in i know i have to get there... but can someone please tell me how? its like the past 4 yrs of telling myself "ah, they won't expect us to know this/that... its not MBBS" has finally caught up with me... bummer.

i'm on a 2 week "study-break" now. or rather, an "i-should-be-studying-break".

on a more zingy note i really had a blast during the 4 mth elective period. havent had so much time for myself in a long time. and new zealand was just absolutely beautiful, especially seeing falling snow for the first time. although right now what i would really like is a cheap, beachy holiday. haha the greed! ;)

old farts

2 outings with old classmates within the past week... sat was with my JC class and yesterday was with my secondary school class. it was quite surreal hanging out with my sec sch classmates, haven't seen most of them in like 6(!) years. But everyone is kind of the same, except that now everyone is like working/graduating and talking about more grown-up stuff. Was quite half-hearted abt gg to both initially but i'm pretty glad i went. really enjoyed myself! but i think we're not gg to be seeing each other again for a long time.

feeling quite blah. i NEED adrenaline!!! ok maybe happy hour cocktails and tapas will do. haha.

its December again!

hello! sorry i havent been updating but i really find it harder and harder to find things i can and wanna blog abt nowadays... and my laptop is on the verge of death so its very hard to post pictures without wasting 1/10th of my lifespan.

anyway been "hard-at-work" at Paeds for the past 1.5 mths... 2 more weeks to go before it ends. and i really cant wait for it to end. its not as if i am super hard at work studying now but there's really nothing much to look forward to till the end of Patho Pros. oh there's christmas! haha

on a lighter note electives and travel plans are more or less settled! im very excited abt the thought of gg to NZ (mother nature + totally accessible city lifestyle = my cup of tea). after NZ is India! I don't know how India is gonna be like apart from scorching weather but Don has been telling me abt Goa and how beautiful it is.

my social circle is shrinking leh! Kerly... do invite us to your house for MJ more often! I miss hanging out at ur place with everybody!

ok I'd better do some work before gg out for dinner. Hope to be back with a new post soon!

10 days in Philippines part 2: Bohol and Moalboal

Haha its time for Sporadic Entry: July Edition. Photos from the 2nd half of our trip.

After another round of Rough Riders and 1x bumpy boat ride, we arrive at Tagbilaran in Bohol. We were immediately accosted by a swarm of scary touts.

The stretch of beach where we would laze ard in the day. In the Philippines the pace of life is abt 20x slower. So we'd just chill out with an ice cold beer and watch the world crawl by. Bliss.

Bohol is well known for this attraction called the Chocolate Hills. Lonely Planet describes it as either the 1.calcified tears of a giant or 2.giant droppings of the abovementioned giant. We biked all the way up, which is really makes your butt hurt bad. Plus I must say the roads there are quite scary.

Diving in Bohol: we went to this place called Balicasag. Great visibility and we saw lots of stuff. But now I cant remember what we saw there cos I've confused the places alr.

The same beachfront we lazed ard during the day. Massages and BBQ-ed beef, pork, fish, squid dinners nightly. Very yummy but also lethal to the throat. Ack.

Moalboal: after yet another round of Rough Riders. More diving.

Moalboal is a miniscule place. It consists of a single stretch of shops/hostels/diving companies. So people visit purely to dive. The waters are fabulous; crystal clear but sadly there is no beach for tourists to enjoy it on.

Yup this completes my Sporadic Entry!

10 days in Philippines: Cebu City and Malapascua

Hello I'm back! Some pictures of our trip. Been back since Monday and ever since i've been slothing it up at home.
We flew to Cebu and stayed in Cebu city the first day. We couldn't wait to leave.
This map shows the places we went to.
We arrived at our hotel ard 4am and waited till we could check in at around noon. In the philippines the sun rises at 5am and sets at 5.30pm.

After we checked in, we decided to go round cebu city to explore...
We visited the carbon market, its a lot like the markets you see in Cambodia except a little messier... but we had some fun trying straw hats haha

We went to the Santo Nino Church... after that there was really nothing much to do in cebu city... rather smoky and chaotic place, no major shops whatsoever, the most exciting shop is possibly MacDonald's

Our next stop was Malapascua island! Divers travel there in order to catch a glimpse of thresher sharks. Malapascua also has a small stretch of beach called Bounty Beach...its supposed to be the up-and-coming Boracay with its crystal blue waters and pristine white sand

We took this 4 hour bus ride on this bus called Rough Riders. It is indeed the roughest ride we've ever taken...packed shoulder-to-shoulder with grimy passengers(us included), the ride's guaranteed to split your ass. Plus they overtake by going onto lanes with oncoming traffic

The view along the way was lovely

After the 4 hr bus ride, we took a ferry before we finally reached Malapascua. Woohoo!

The view of Bounty Beach from our ferry as we were approaching Malapascua... the waters in the Philippines are really clear. Havent seen anything like it before.

Its a very quaint island... very little development and modern facilities. Which adds to the charm of the place. Haha... but we had some trouble swatting off the flies that plague your food. And a lot of trouble adjusting to our hut with no aircon amidst the sweltering heat, no freshwater(imagine bathing in seawater) and lots of mozzies. That said... there are some posh huts on the island which were fully equipped but we were too poor to afford it haha.

Oh but the sunset is amazingly beautiful... Loved the colours. The top right hand picture shows the floating hut where we were having drinks on.

Next up was diving! This was Moomoo and I's second diving trip ever (the first was open water at Hantu) We were hoping to see some thresher sharks... divers travel specially to Malapascua in order to see these sharks. And it all depends on luck... sometimes divers dive there for 5 days in a row without seeing any. And we were lucky! Must be beginner's luck cos we managed to spot two of them on our first dive.

We were on the boat by 5.30am so that we could catch the sharks in action

In between and after our dives

to be continued!
